** Introduction **
The dataset has been collected as part of the study 'Key Competencies for Design in a Circular Economy: Exploring Gaps in Design Knowledge and Skills for a Circular Economy' conducted by the author of this file, who at the time of writing this README.txt file is a PhD researcher at the the Delft University of Technology (TUD). This accompanying dataset contains the summary of surveys filled out by 315 respondents which have been conducted in an online Qualtrics study. The online Qualtrics study was named 'Design skills for a circular economy'.

** Purpose **
The aim of the interviews was to learn more assess to assess to what extent seven competencies (i.e., (1) Design for Multiple Use Cycles, (2) Design for Recovery, (3) Circular Impact Assessment, (4) Circular Business Models, (5) Circular User Engagement, (6) Circular Economy Collaboration, and (7) Circular Economy Communication) were recognised by an international group of designers and to evaluate whether there are competencies missing from the overview. The underlying theoretical framework used to structure the collected results of the survey and which was used for during the categorisation of the additional skills (see corresponding data tab in excel file) was provided by previous studies conducted by the same research team.

** Data Gathering **
This dataset is being made public so it can be used in other research projects. The data in this dataset was collected by the author (Deborah Sumter). She is also the principal author of the accompanied manuscript with the title 'Key Competencies for Design in a Circular Economy: Exploring Gaps in Design Knowledge and Skills for a Circular Economy'. The data was was collected in April and May 2020.
The collected results of survey sheet included 32 open and closed ended questions.

*** Data Specific Information **
The data included in this data set can be read both horizontally (i.e. in rows) or vertically (i.e., in columns). which can be seen in each column in the accompanied xlx file with the name 20201120_Sumteretal_Data_DfCEcomp.xlx
Horizontal (i.e. rows) = data collected for each participant.
Vertically (i.e, columns) = data collected for each survey question.
The headers have not been translated
The first tab (Data overview) summarises the data included in the subsequent tab and the analysis that has been done if need be.
The second tab (Survey Questions) gives a chornological overview of the question included in the survey.
Note that for the analysis the researcher has excluded respondents who indicated that they did not work on circular economy projects and students, resulting in the data of only 128 respondents being analysed.
